#METOO: SABC working towards stabilizing Lotus FM

A forensic investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct at Lotus FM is underway.

In May this year, the SABC launched the Commission led by Barbara Watson to probe sexual harassment and editorial interference across all platforms within the public broadcaster led by Dr Joe Thloloe.

SABC spokesperson, Neo Mamodu, in response to Indian Spice states that they are trying to bring stability to the radio station.

“To ensure and encourage awareness and/or participation by current and previous SABC employees and independent contractors, SABC platforms reported on this important process, urging aggrieved parties to approach the Commission. These messages were also communicated several times internally to employees. SABC employees are continuously made aware of internal grievance procedures which they are encouraged to follow.”

Following the explosive revelations from Vanessa Govender’s book it has unleashed a matter of vulnerability for female employees at the SABC. 

This culture of sexual harassment dates back to her early days at Lotus FM have now been placed on record with the commission to whom she has named her abuser. 

A forensic investigation into sex-for-jobs allegations and an alleged plot to destroy the station in order to privately acquire it from the SABC.

These claims are said to be detailed in a dossier compiled by some staff including freelancers.

Leaked sex tapes lands up in court

Meanwhile this week as reported by the Sunday Tribune Herald former freelancer Mishka Gounden filed a civil defamation claim for 1,5 million ZAR.

This is against former employee, Fahim Jamadar for allegedly soliciting and then distributing private videos containing sexual content.

Stability of the station is core focus

“Management is aware of the challenges that Lotus FM is facing and necessary steps are being taken to ensure stability. These include the forensic investigation currently underway on various allegations at Lotus FM and which is in its conclusion stages. The outcomes of the investigation will shed light on the veracity of the challenges and claims made, and provide recommendations to management.”
