Vinta Nanda alleges being raped by Alok Nath

Vinta Nanda’s searing account of rape has left the social media shocked, adding yet another harrowing chapter to India’s #MeToo campaign.

In a long Facebook post on Monday, the woman behind one of India’s most forward looking soaps from 90s, Tara, accused actor Alok Nath of assaulting her sexually on more than one occasion.

“I have waited for this moment to come for 19 years,” Nanda wrote in a long, heart-wrenching Facebook post, referring to the “predator in question” as “the actor par excellence who is known as the most ‘sanskaari’ (cultured) person in the film and television industry”.

Alok Nath, famous as the ‘sanskaari bapuji’ from family dramas, told ABP News that he neither ‘denies nor agrees with Vinta Nanda’s allegations and that ‘only what a woman says will be considered.’

Nanda recounted her personal trauma saying she left a party at 2 am. “I started to walk home on the empty streets… Midway I was accosted by this man who was driving his own car and he asked me to sit in it and said he would drop me home. I trusted him and sat in his car. I have faint memory after that. I can remember more liquor being poured into my mouth and I remember being violated endlessly.

When I woke up the next afternoon, I was in pain,” she wrote.

She also wrote how the actor first harassed the lead actress on the sets of Tara – Navneet Nishan, not named in the post – and that his alleged conduct got so bad that Ms Nanda and her production associates decided to let him go. Pressure from the TV channel ended with Tara going off air abruptly and Ms Nanda’s other shows being cancelled as well.

Soon after her revelation was out, actor Sandhya Mridul exposed her #MeToo moment with Alok Nath.

Actress Sandhya Mridul accuses Alok Nath of sexual harassment

This incident happened while working on a telefilm in the 1990s, Nath misbehaved with her and harassed her for days.

The latest name to join the line of those who have allegedly been harassed by Alok Nath is Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety actress Deepika Amin.

Deepika Amin, who was seen playing the character of Sunny Singh’s mother in SKTKS, took to her Twitter account to share her #MeToo story about Alok Nath.

She wrote, “Everyone in the industry knows that #AlokNath is an obnoxious drunkard who harasses women. Years ago on a telefilm outdoor shoot, he tried to barge into my room. He slobbered over women, drunk and created a scene. The unit rallied around me and made sure I was safe. #metoo.”

While speaking to Firstpost, Deepika Amin had shared that she has heard other male actors talking about women being upset with Alok Nath because he would knock on their doors at night.

However, the actress who also shared screen space with him in Luv Ranjan’s directorial Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, added in her Facebook post that Alok Nath was “quiet and subdued” on the sets of the film. “Maybe he has changed? Maybe because the director Luv Ranjan made it clear he wouldn’t tolerate bad behaviour. But after reading Vinta Nanda’s heartbreaking account I felt I had to support her. BELIEVE WOMEN. They have everything to lose by speaking out. #IbelieveyouVintaNanda #metoo #Timesup.”

Alok Nath issues statements via his legal counsel

Nath’s lawyer, Ashok Sarogi, described the allegations as a ‘planned conspiracy’, and indicated that his client will file defamation suits against the women.

“All the complaints are false and there is no merit in it. A person waits for 19 years and then comes out with the case and after that to support her case, other persons join her. This by itself indicates that something is being done purposely, only to malign his image and nothing beyond that.” stated Sarogi.

He went on to say that allegations, which followed Vinta Nanda’s allegation, were made in support of her, and hence pointed to a “conspiracy.”

“It has to be in the nature of conspiracy. It is a well-planned thing that one person has come forward after 19 years and others are trying to come out for the purpose of supporting (her) instead of making any independent complaint.
