If you did not know Ma Anand Sheela had almost single-handedly established a town in Oregon, conducted a bio-terror attack, spent time in prison and was convicted of many other crimes.
So, although we’ve seen her life in the documentary, it’ll be fascinating to see a subjective take on this enigmatic figure by Priyanka Chopra.
80’s kids saw the rise and fall of the Osho movement, and watched its events unfold in real time. But the rest of us became aware of this cult phenomenon when Netflix released a documentary called ‘Wild Wild Country’, which told the story of Osho through his disciples, including Ma Anand Sheela. And now Priyanka Chopra is all set to play the secretary of Rajneesh-turned-criminal.
While attending Ellen DeGeneres’ show, Priyanka Chopra announced that she’ll be taking on the role of Ma Anand Sheela. And it’ll be helmed by Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson. She said,
“I am developing a feature with Barry Levinson. He is an iconic American director. We are developing it (from the perspective of) Sheela who is this guru who originated from India.”
This will be Priyanka’s fourth Hollywood project. She further added,
“She was his right hand woman and she was devious. She created a whole cult in America. He was called Osho. I don’t know if you’ve heard of him. I am developing that next for me to star in and produce.”
