The Durban baby girl that refused to give up in a storm-drain

Emergency services worked for nearly three hours to save an infant that was disposed of into a storm drain in Newlands East.

Rescue Care paramedics, Metro Search & Rescue along with the eThekwini Fire Department were called on to the corner of Barracuda Road and Herring Circle  in Newlands East.

There were loud cheers from locals who had been from the scene since early this morning as a firefighter pulled the baby into safety.

The rescue service worked in tandem with others – which saw them dig down to the pipe, cut it open and pull the baby out – managed to rescue her.  

The infant was crying but appeared to be in good health. She was quickly rushed to a waiting helicopter. It’s understood she is being flown to a nearby hospital.  

The child was stuck more than seven metres down the pipe but was still crying and moving.
