Residents of Tongaat, north of Durban say they are frustrated with having their taps constantly running dry.
Residents were left without water for days in many areas of Tongaat. Some residents say they were not given any explanation or help from the eThekwini municipality.
On Monday night, residents protested in affected areas by burning tyres and stoning vehicles.
Meanwhile, the eThekwini Municipality apologised to Tongaat residents for the inconvenience caused by the water crisis. Municipality Spokesperson – Msawakhe Mayisela says they are optimistic that the water crisis will be remedied by the end of this week.
** Also, PR Councillor Jonathan Annipen has written to the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) about the Tongaat water crisis.
Annipen says the consistent water shortages are an infringement on resident’s rights of a basic necessity.
