#SRILANKA: Another bomb blast in Colombo: Van explodes near Church

#COLOMBO: A van parked near the church in Colombo that was bombed on Easter Sunday exploded on Monday, but no injuries have been reported. The explosion took place as the police were trying to defuse a new bomb found near the church, reported AFP, quoting the Sri Lankan police.

The National Tawheed Jamath outfit is suspected to be behind the deadly serial bomb blasts that ripped through churches and hotels and claimed nearly 300 lives on Easter, Sri Lankan minister Rajitha Senaratne said on Monday.

In the aftermath of the deadly bombings, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena is all set to declare nationwide emergency from midnight on Monday.

A local jihadist outfit, identified as the National Thowheed Jamath, is suspected of plotting the deadly blasts, which killed at least 290 people and wounded 500 others, a top Sri Lankan minister said on Monday. However, the organisation has reportedly denied responsibility.

Five JD(S) workers, who were touring Colombo, were killed in the series of bomb blasts in Sri Lanka. They were a part of a seven-member team touring the island nation.
