LOTUS FM: Listenership rises as station begins to thrive

#JOHANNESBURG: Just more than half of the 39 PBS and commercial stations have recorded audience increases in the latest RAMS. Lotus FM has experienced the biggest diary on diary increases with 29.29% jumping from 140 000 to 181 000 listeners.

Lotus FM forms part of the South African Broadcasting Corporation’s (SABC) stable of radio stations. The station’s listenership hit a record low of 127000, a loss of 154000 from January 2016 to September 2018.

The Indian lifestyle radio station recently bagged 3 Liberty Radio Awards after receiving 8 nominations in various categories. 

The popular ‘Breakfast Xpress’ show won in the category of Radio Documentary (Combined) with a tear-jerking yesteryear peace titled “1860” that paid tribute to the arrival of Indians in South Africa.

ABOUT: Lotus FM is the only Indian radio station with a broadcasting footprint that covers a large area of South Africa.  The station is steadfast on promoting social cohesion and caters for the five linguistic groups, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati and Urdu.
