Lata Mangeshkar outrages fans with harsh comments over Ranu Mandol

Ranu Mondal shot to fame with her rendition of Lata Mangeshkar’s popular 1972 track ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai’ from Shor in her soulful voice.

The video that was posted on a Facebook page has over 4 million times. After capturing the hearts of netizens she also received a scintillating makeover who went above and beyond for the woman.

Soon after Mondal was snapped up by Bollywood actor, music composer, Himesh Reshammiya to record songs for his latest upcoming movie Happy, Hardy, Heer.

Ranu’s daughter had recently accused members of a club helping her in lieu of her new found wealth.

To this, Ranu had said, “Being an artist, money isn’t something that concerns me. Getting the opportunity to sing is more than enough. Also, to survive we all need food, proper clothes and a decent place to stay; by God’s grace I have all that now. Yes they had taken Rs 10,000 but then that was used in buying household stuff, clothes, cooking gas and travel fares. It’s very important to trust people and I do that.”

What did Lata Mangeshkar have to say?

As the success rains over Ranu Mondal, it was Lata Mangeshkar’s comments that have upset South African fans.

The 89-year-old had a piece of advice for all budding singers. She said,

“I also feel imitation is not a reliable and durable companion for success. By singing my songs or Kishoreda’s (Kumar), or (Mohd) Rafi Saab’s, or Mukesh Bhaiyya or Asha’s (Bhosle) numbers, aspiring singers can get short-term attention. But it won’t last. Be original. By all means, sing the evergreen songs by me and my colleagues. But after a point, the singer must seek and find his or her own song”
