Airbrushed photos make missing person searches difficult for authorities

Editing your social media pictures may be the trend to follow online, but it can be misleading for use on a missing person’s flyer.

That’s according to forensic consultant, Dawn Gounden. She says those involved in missing persons cases are facing many challenges, due to the fact that many photographs sent to them are photoshopped.

It’s true though, imagine searching for someone and the flyer states, ‘

The missing person was last seen wearing excessive foundation and red lipstick with a hue of blue eyeshadow and had a snapchat filter of blonde hair but is actually brown haired.’

Gounden says this makes it extremely difficult to identify a person in reality – as often the social media picture does not correspond to a person’s actual appearance.
