Kollywood films threaten 3 Bollywood releases this Diwali

This Diwali will see a three-way clash between Akshay Kumar-Riteish Deshmukh-starrer ensemble comedy, Housefull 4, Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar’s Saand Ki Aankh and Rajkummar Rao’s Made In China. The three films release in theatres on 25 October.

But all three films will have challenges to face in the South. The Bollywood releases will be going up against Vijay and Nayanthara’s Bigil and Karthi-starrer Kaithi in the South. Both the films will be releasing in Tamil and Telugu languages.

“In the South the first film choice will either be Bigil or Kaithi. These films are the first choice for all the exhibitors as well. And that will really affect the collections of Housefull 4 and Saand Ki Aankh in the South,” says Atul.

Housefull 4, of course is a big and successful franchise film with Akshay in the lead, and is expected to make the most money at the box office on the weekend among the three. According to movie business analyst, Atul Mohan, the film is expected to earn “between Rs 15 to Rs 20 crore” on day one.

“Saand Ki Aankh could open with around Rs 4 crore collections on opening day.”Atul Mohan, Film Trade Analyst

The buzz around director Tushar Hiranandani Saand Ki Aankh has been positive. It has already been declared tax-free in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, and is expected to be announced tax-free in several other states, around its release.

Saand Ki Aankh could open with around Rs 4 crore collections on opening day,” says Atul. “Made In China will most likely have a lower opening than Saand Ki Aankh,” he adds.

“Looking at the current trend and taste of the audience, people are liking inspiring stories and biopics, and powerful content-driven cinema. So Saand Ki Aankh has a great chance of making money,” he says.
