Diwali incidents like the case in Pretoria and the incident of Samantha Reddy Govender are not being taken lightly by the public.
#SOUTHAFRICA: The South African Hindu Maha Sabha has offered their legal assistance to the Hindu community following cases of racism during Diwali celebrations.
In a letter dated Wednesday, October 30, the president of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha stated the following:
The SA Hindu Maha Sabha (SAHMS) has once again witnessed totally unwarranted, unlawful, racist, vulgar and shameful actions of some sections of South African community. This occurred despite large media coverage promoting tolerance of each others cultures.
The incident in Pretoria demands that the perpetrator be charged criminally and civilly. He must face the full might of the law in every respect. Others have made outrageous and racial attacks on Hindus. They must equally be brought to book.
To this end the SAHMS offers to intervene legally in these instances and any other such case that is brought to its attention.Ashwin Trikamjee, President of SAHMS
