Diwali and Johannesburg Pride in one weekend, we clearly had our work cut out for us at Indian Spice.

#JHBPRIDE: Thousands of #LGBTQ+ community and supporters made their way to the annual Johannesburg Pride and Prade Festival that was held on Saturday, 26 October in Sandton.

The exuberant crowd cheered on as they took over the streets of Sandton Central much to the delight on onlookers. This has been billed the most successful Pride event to date which saw over 20,000 patrons at the event.

The event was also supported by corporate and business brands ranging from search giant Google, sporting goods brand Nike, cellular brand Vodacom, Mercedes-Benz and the Sandton City Shopping Centre, among others.

As the sun descended over the landscape of Sandton, Pride supporters were taken aback and amazed as a rainbow appeared over the skyline of the Pride event.

Good mourning. 🖤 • Yesterday, was @jhbpride, an important event for my community 🏳️‍🌈 – and recently there was enough momentum to call out the organizer(s) of it, for running it as “elitist & capitalist”. Things need to change, as we’ll surely hold them accountable! A city’s PRIDE organisation is for the people, and should be run by those passionate in seeing visibility, as well as equal representation of narratives. So, as we bid farewell to 2019, celebrating 30 years of Pride in Johannesburg, we ask that the vision of our stalwarts: #SimonNkoli & @bevditsie (to name a few), be honoured once again. ❤️ Happy Pride, my lovelies! 💋 ——- #drag #dragqueen #dragartist #dragstar #supportlocaldrag #activist #performer #model #artist #Pride #lgbt #queer #celebration #JhbPride #jhbpride2019 #JoburgPride #JoburgPride2019 #DaimlerPride
