Women Have A Backup Partner Waiting In Case Their Current Relationship Fails, Says Study

Most people always have a Plan B as a contingency when they embark upon anything new. It sure can be a relief should Plan A ever fail. From wedding venue and food to travel plans and career options, most of the people always have a backup plan already in their head subconsciously. This apparently makes people feel secure and less nervous. And seems like, the same goes for relationships. Well, at least for women according to this study!

Researchers surveyed 1000 women both married and in a relationship and the results are pretty interesting, reports Mail Online. As per the research, 50% of the women admitted to having a fall-back partner who has somehow fancied them. Be it their gym buddy, office friend or an ex-boyfriend.

As per the survey, one in ten women said that their ‘Plan B’ has already confessed his love for them. Four to five women in ten said that they met their backup partner while they were with their better-half, while a similar percentage said he was ‘on the scene’ long before.

Four in ten women also confessed that their feelings for the backup partner are as strong as they have for their actual current partner. Moreover, 12% of women admitted that they feel more strongly for their backup partner as compared to their present lover.

Half of the women who participated in the survey also said that their current partner was probably well-aware of the third-party. Some of them also admitted that their current partner has met their Plan B. But many of these women have also said that they ‘doubted’ anything would ever happen with the other man, so, it technically wasn’t ‘cheating’.

Talking about the research, a spokesman for online market research company OnePoll.com told Daily Mail,

“For our research to establish that 50 percent of women in relationships have a ‘Plan B’ is a worrying sign. This news may cause a few men in relationships to think twice about not taking the rubbish out or choosing a night down the pub in favor of a cozy night in with his partner.”

“This could spark fear in men across the UK and be great news for women looking for that extra bit of love and care so that their attentions aren’t swayed. The saying that “the grass isn’t always greener” clearly isn’t deterring women of today. They understand that anything can happen and are ensuring they have a solid back up plan should things go sour with their current man,” he added.

He further added, “With sites like Facebook and Twitter, it’s easier than ever to stay in touch with an old flame. Men need to be aware of any ‘old friends’ that turn up out of the blue that’s for sure.”

According to the researcher at Gangestad & Simpson, ‘the strategy of having a back-up partner could also be about having a mate to procreate with in case of a break-up’. Other reasons for having a backup partner include insecurities or unhappy and unsatisfactory relationships.Do you think having a backup plan for your love life a crime? Tell us.
