#DURBAN: The investigative unit, Hawks are readying themselves as the case of Sandra Moonsamy is set to gain international interest.
Moonsamy was kidnapped in May on the M13 on Stapleton Road in Pinetown, while driving her black Range Rover. Efforts to find her initially led nowhere until the Hawks investigative unit took over the case. Her abductors demanded R140m for her release to be paid via Bitcoin following her abduction in May 2019.
It is believed that the intelligence operation carried out last Thursday saw four arrests being made and Moonsamy rescued after spending 162 days in captivity – is linked to an international crime syndicate.

The Sunday Times story focuses on the Pinetown businesswoman’s return to the multibillion-rand family business empire which is allegedly a tangled web of debt. The Saturday Star reported that investigations behind Moonsamy’s kidnapping have been linked to the abductions of Pretoria businessman Omar Carrim and Joburg businessman Shiraz Gathoo,
Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed to News24 that a suspected international crime syndicate is behind the kidnapping with more details to be divulged during court proceedings.
The mother of two is believed to be recuperating in hospital.
