Death of singer Lata Mangeshkar fuel fake news

#DELHI: It has been days after Lata Mangeshkar was hospitalised for breathlessness and lung infection. Now rumors of the veteran singer’s death are creating panic globally.

The family and it’s PR team have released a statement assuring the public that the singer’s health is said to be “progressing steadily”

On Saturday morning, a statement from her team read, “Lata di is fine and progressing steadily. Request members of the media to please not give vent to rumours. Thank You for standing by us.”

Another statement from her spokesperson Anusha Srinivasan Iyer read, “Lata Didi is doing good today.”

Another update by her team on Friday read, “Dear Friends. We are as happy as you are to inform you that with all your prayers and best wishes, Lata didi is doing much better. Thank You for being there. God is great.”

Lata Mangeshkar was admitted to Mumbai Breach Candy hospital in the early hours of Monday after she complained of breathing difficulties.

While initial reports suggested Lata Mangeshkar is critical, her family dismissed the reports.

Lata Mangeshkar turned 90 years old on 28 September. Celebrities including Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Rishi Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, AR Rahman, Shreya Ghoshal and Anil Kapoor all sent her messages of goodwill on social media.
