#BOLLYWOOD: Arjun Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt starrer Panipat – The Great Betrayal made its way to the theaters this Friday. The war film stars Arjun as Maratha warrior Sadashiv Rao Bhau and Dutt as Mughal ruler Ahmad Shah Abdali. Kriti Sanon is seen as Parvati Bai (Kapoor’s wife) in the film.
The film aims to showcase the legendary battle of Panipat. But soon after the trailer of the film was released, the audience began drawing comparisons between the Panipat and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat and Bajirao Mastani. While Arjun and Kriti’s characters were compared to Bajorao and Kashi Bai from Bajirao Mastani, Sanjay Dutt’s Abdali reminded people of Ranveer Singh’s Alauddin Khilji.
Sets, costumes, VFX, everything and anything in the trailer of the film was compared to previous period dramas. Moreover, Arjun Kapoor’s performance in the film apparently failed to impress some viewers.
But if the early reviews of the film are to be believed, the Ashutosh Gowarikar film has opened to a decent response from the audience. While some are praising Arjun and Dutt for their stunning performances, some still believe that the film doesn’t match up to standards set by Bhansali’s films.
