#DURBAN: Residents in the sleepy town of Verulam are reeling in shock following the discovery of skeletal human remains inside a water reservoir.
City officials have dispatched water tankers to assist residents where the reservoir normally services the areas of Trenance Park, Tea Estate, Buffelsdraai, Madrona Drive, Valley View Drive, Hilltop Road and Upper Amaoti. City officials have assured residents that the supplied water by the municipality is considered safe.
Routine Inspection at reservoir
The discovery of the skeletal remains at the Trenance Park reservoir was made during a routine inspection by a municipal worker. Ethekwini officials have stated that the affected compartment has been flushed out and is being treated with chemicals to ensure water quality is not compromised.
It is not known how the remains got into the compartment but a preliminary investigation has revealed that the reservoir shutter doors were broken into.
Police are investigating the case.
