PIETERMARITZBURG: Durban businesswoman Kavitha Nerputh has been found strangled to death on Monday night.

The Northdale resident is a well-known businesswoman for her herbal weight-loss product range of Forever Well Tea. In 2017, Kavita Nerputh hosted a lavish R100 000 carnival-themed party for her then four-year-old daughter, Zia and invited 150 children from the community to share in the joy of the event.

Kavita’s body was found inside her vehicle around 6.30pm last night at Alexandra Park. Early reports state that she was strangled with a cell phone charger cable that was found with a lock of entangle hair behind her seat. It is suspected that Nerputh may have been in the company of someone she knew prior to her death.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele commented that Alexandra police were investigating  a murder case that was opened after a woman’s body was found inside a motor vehicle in Alexandra Road, Scottsville, at 7.30pm.

The police were forced to break into Nerputh’s car via the window to discover Nerputh alive with a fading pulse. Paramedics attempted to stabilize her however she died at the scene. Her car keys and cell phone were missing from the scene of the crime.

“It is suspected that the 41-year-old woman was strangled as she was found inside the vehicle with all doors locked. The police broke the back door of the vehicle to remove the body,”

Harassment claims

Nerputh was previously embroiled in a two-year court battle in attempts to prevent a former friend from harassing her on social media. The Court ordered her former friend to stay away from her and granted Nerputh’s request for a protection order in March 2019.

It is understood that Kavita Nerputh feared for her life and that of her family seeking protection orders against individuals.
