INDIA: Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Thursday, 5 March, issued a fresh death warrant against the four convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case. They are to be hanged at 5:30 am on 20 March.
Additional Sessions Judge Dharmendra Rana fixed the new date after being informed by the Delhi government that the convicts have exhausted all their legal remedies. The convicts’ lawyer also told the court that there was no legal impediment for it in proceeding to fix the date of execution.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Thursday said it would hear on 23 March, the appeal filed by the Centre challenging the Delhi High Court order that the four death row convicts have to be executed simultaneously.
