Grade 3 Verulam Learner Run Over Killed By Bus

SABC NEWS: A 9-year-old learner has been killed after he was run over by bus in Valley View Drive in Redcliffe this morning while on his way to school in Verulam, north of Durban.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were called out to the scene at approximately 07:23 by the public requesting assistance for the critically injured grade 3 pupil. On arrival, it was established that the bus was reversing on the oncoming lane when the scholar decided to run across the road. According to witnesses the child attempted to stop but slipped in the mud and fell under the wheels of the bus when he was run over. The nine (9) year old suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.

Several residents gathered at the scene and threatened to assault the driver.

Spokesperson for local security company, Reaction Unit South Africa, Prem Balram, says the incident has left other learners who witnessed the incident traumatized.
