INDIA NEWS: The salacious screenshots of a Delhi based private chat group named “Bois Locker Room” surfaced online has now escalated as authorities intervene. The Instagram group chat has created outrage as young minors were seen to be casually discussing sexual violence and sharing photos of underage girls.
Indian cyber expert Shubham Singh has been investigating the matter and now the Delhi Police Cyber Cell have lodged an first incident (FIR) report.
The Indian Express quoted DCP Anyesh Roy saying,
“After we came to know, we registered an FIR under Sections 465 (forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and Sections 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) and 67A (publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit act in electronic form) of the IT Act. We are probing the matter and collecting all technical evidence.”
Furthermore, authorities of a South Delhi school filed a complaint at Saket police station and the Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) issued notices to Instagram and the cops, reports Hindustan Times.
News18 quoted an officer saying, “In their complaint, school authorities requested police to investigate the incident. Police, using technical surveillance, got the registered number of the 15-year-old, who had allegedly shared a photograph on the group. His phone was switched off. After finding his address, he was apprehended on Monday evening.”
The Times of India reports that the private group had 21 members from 3-4 different schools and some from colleges. Another officer was quoted saying,
“We interviewed the minor and he told us they were not morphing pictures of their classmates but of random public accounts on Instagram. He said he did not know many people in the group as they were from other schools. After screenshots of the alleged group went viral, the group was deleted and another was created as ‘lockerroom 2.0’ in which girls were also added. We have also come across some conversations on Snapchat.”
As this issue came to light, Delhi Police started an investigation and managed to arrest a 15-year-old boy who was a member of the group and had shared a photograph of a girl.
However, the admin of the ‘Bois Locker Room’ group chat has been arrested. The guy is not a minor and has already appeared for his Class-12 exams after studying at a school in NCR, reports India Today.
The accused has revealed the names of 27 other members of the group, 15 of whom have been interrogated, reports NDTV. Their devices have been confiscated and have been sent for forensic analysis.
Besides school students, there were 10 college students, 1st and 2nd years, who were part of the group.
“The identified members who are major, are being examined. The minor members of the group are being dealt with as per the provisions of Juvenile Justice Act, said a Delhi Police official.
