Controversial Durban Property Mogul Jay Singh Dies

DURBAN NEWS: Durban property mogul Jay Singh passed away this Friday morning at the age of 57 from kidney failure. The controversial businessman previously made numerous headlines over the years for his housing contracts and developments in the Phoenix and Tongaat areas, north of Durban. In 2013, Singh’s construction of the Tongaat Mall partially collapsed killing two people and injuring several others.

An early morning Whatsapp message was shared this morning by his spokesperson Pastor Mervyn Reddy

“Good morning family, staff, friends and our Phoenix community, it is with a sad heart that I want to inform you of the passing of philanthropist and businessman, Mr Jay Singh this morning. May his soul rest in peace.”

Speaking to TimesLIVE he also stated that the 57 year old Singh was a transplant patient and died from kidney failure.

“He was on dialysis. He died at around 5.30am,” he said.

“The community is shocked by his passing. He was involved in philanthropy and the messages pouring in this morning show just how many people respected him,” he said.

Singh’s family spokesperson, Mervyn Reddy says they are still disbelief over Jay’s passing.
