Phoenix Community Clinic Shortage Of PPE Raises Concern

SABC NEWS: The KwaZulu-Natal Health Department has responded to the challenges at the Phoenix Community Health Centre, north of Durban by saying it is unaware of any shortages of personal protective equipment at the facility. Staff at the clinic downed tools last week, demanding a proper decontamination of the clinic as well as COVID-19 tests for staff who were allegedly exposed to a patient with the virus last month.

However, management denied their requests, saying only those with symptoms would be tested. While staff have agreed to now return to work, their concerns remain unanswered.

Phoenix Community Health Centre is situated at Phoenix Township inย eThekwini Health districtย .The Community Health Centre operates 24 hours and has a total of 20 beds. The centre provides healthcare services to the community of Phoenix that has a population of about 155 494 people and in other surrounding catchment areas.
