Waste Disposal Sites Pose Dangerous Health Risk

NEWS: A study has revealed serious health consequences for those living near waste disposal sites in South Africa. The study, which was conducted by a group of local and international scientists, found that residents living within a five-kilometre radius of a dumping site are more susceptible to chronic illnesses such as asthma, tuberculosis and even depression.

Professor Rob Slotow from the School of Life Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal says the increased projected levels of waste in the country, especially in poorly managed waste sites, is a massive concern.
