MS Dhoni Celebrates Birthday Under Lockdown

Indian cricketer MS Dhoni known to his fans at Captain Cool celebrates his 39th birthday today, 7 June 2020, with humble beginnings, Dhoni worked as a ticket collector for the Indian railway before making his debut in the national cricket team. The iconic former Indian skipper led India to victory in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy title, he also became the first (and remains still the only captain) to lift the Champions Trophy as well as the ICC T20 World Cup (2007) and ICC ODI World Cup (2011).

Dhoni’s stellar career launched in 2007 after he was named captain bowled out every single team ranking India as the world number 1 cricket test team in 2009. The cricket retired from Test cricket after finishing off his 90th test during India’s tour of Australia in 2014. Eventually, Dhoni handed over the ODI and T20I skipper titles in January 2017. The cult status of MS Dhoni continued during his stint in the IPL franchise, the man known to his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans as ‘Thala’ led the IPL team from 2008. Dhoni was scheduled to return to the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL tournament this year on March 29 however this is still on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

India’s government awarded the much-loved captain the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (2007), the Padma Shri (2009) and the Padma Bhushan (2018) for his contribution to the sport. He was also named the ICC ODI Player of the Year for two consecutive years (2008 and 2009).

Several members of the cricket family, like Hardik Pandya, current Indian skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri took to Twitter to wish Dhoni the best on his special day.

Happy b’day Mahi Bhai. Wish you good health and happiness always. God bless you,” skipper Virat Kohli tweeted. “Happy Birthday Youngster! Have an absolute blast Legend,” Indian team coach Ravi Shastri tweeted.
