All eyes are on South African power-couple Shaaista and Osman Osman’s Dubai-based lifestyle and management company, Blu Blood Middle East this August. The renowned entertainment company gears up to host the world’s first high profile, globally-produced and large scale live indoor Bollywood music concert with ‘COVID-consciousness’ since the start of the pandemic. “It is due to the persistence and perseverance of Osman and Shaaista that this gig is happening. You know, when God is presenting you with an opportunity, you should think about it, experiment, get creative and do something about it,” said Sonu Nigam.
With the support of Dubai Summer Surprise, The Dubai Arts & Culture Authority and Dubai Calendar, Bollywood sensation, Sonu Nigam, together with an 18-piece international ensemble of performers and musicians, will perform in this once-in-a-lifetime live music event on Friday, 21st of August, 2020 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Shaaista Khan Osman, CEO of Blu Blood, has spearheaded the production and has brought together a collaboration of locally-sourced international performers and musicians for this state-of-the-art show. “Every element has been carefully harmonised for this unique extravaganza, from the astounding orchestra to the dazzling lighting and sound, all while retaining the essence of Sonu’s true style of musical magnificence,” comments Khan Osman.
Speaking about the Blu Blood Middle East event, Sonu Nigam stated, “This is the first time I am performing with a global team. I have collaborated with international artists before in the UK, but not like this one. I had teamed up the City of Birmingham Orchestra some time back for a show, but the musicians were all from the UK, so that wasn’t exactly a global orchestra, said the Kal Ho Naa Ho hitmaker who has performed multiple shows in Dubai over the years.
The ensemble of 18 musicians and performers hail from different nationalities are coming together on stage to perform Sonu Nigam’s songs. “The team comprises musicians from Russia, Lebanon, Spain, France, UAE, and Mexico, America, Russia. Of course, there will be Indians and Pakistanis in the band too. So, you could say it’s the first-ever global concert in my life,” explained Nigam.
Blu Blood plans to explore innovative solutions to create a safe performer and guest experience. Dubai World Trade Centre’s original 4400 capacity venue will be reduced to 1400 available seats (paired in seats of 2), as well as strict social distancing among performers and crew members and the mandated safety procedures issued by the government throughout the venue. The award-winning Sonu Nigam has set unprecedented milestones throughout his career and he is undoubtedly one of Bollywood’s biggest driving forces who is continuously scaling new heights. Adding to the excitement of the forthcoming concert, Sonu Nigam describes the event, titled The Light, as being “a reminder that no matter the darkness, love, beauty and light will always prevail”.
“As we cautiously emerge through this pandemic and preserving the socially distanced norm that we have come to appreciate during these times, Blu Blood will ensure that all health and safety guidelines as laid out by the Dubai government, and on the recommendation of the World Health Organisation, are carefully followed and carried out,” explains Blu Blood Managing Director, Osman Osman.
Synonymous for bringing high profile entertainment to Southern African stages, Blu Blood is an innovative lifestyle brand with a strong base in South Africa and continuing to build their empire, they established an office in the Middle East in 2019. Osman continues: “We are humbled to be making history and to be laying out the path for the future of the live music industry. This concert represents the light at the end of this darkness and we will prevail,”
The show Sonu Nigam – The Light was conceptualized more than a month-and-a-half back, and Nigam was baffled as to how it would be possible for an event of this magnitude to take place during the pandemic. “The concert is organised by Osman and Shaaista who I’ve known and worked with for a long time. They came up with this (wonderful concert) idea. Initially, it took awhile for the idea to sink in because I’ve been doing grand shows in this city over the years, but how does one execute a concert of that scale at a time like this. Moreover, I don’t have access to my regular band and technical team. Initially, we didn’t think it could happen. But look at the courage (of the organisers), it is due to the persistence and perseverance of Osman and Shaaista that this gig is happening. You know, when God is presenting you with an opportunity, you should think about it, experiment, get creative and do something about it.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO, Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, adds: “Sonu Nigam is regarded as one of the best Bollywood singers and it gives me great pleasure to count this world-first performance as one of the most unforgettable events in the Dubai Summer Surprises 2020 line up. The diverse mix of offerings in the 23rd edition of DSS, the region’s favourite shopping and entertainment summer celebration, is testament to the city of Dubai and its diverse population mix. With every DSS we take great efforts to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy, and I have no doubt this concert will appeal to broad range of residents and visitors with an appreciation for music.”
“We are extremely excited to work with the Blu Blood Group who are brave enough to bring the first ever Bollywood show in the ‘Covid-era’ in the Middle East. Blu Blood and Sonu Nigam serves a much-needed symbolic beacon of hope to the whole entrainment industry and Dubai as a whole”.Vassiliy Anatoli, Platinumlist.net Founder.
With Dubai being a city of positive sentiments, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai concludes: “In the UAE, people support each other like one family to overcome these exceptional circumstances that the world is currently facing. We are blessed to have this spirit of solidarity and a safe country”.
The world is on a path of renewed energy and a shift in how everything is done and with Dubai at the twilight of these sentiments, Sonu Nigam – The Light – Live in Concert will be a test of resilience and a hopeful beacon for the live entertainment industry moving forward.
