The iconic Indian music legend SP Balasubrahmanyam has died, his son SP Charan announced on Friday. He was 74. Balasubrahmanyam has been undergoing treatment at the MGM Healthcare Hospital in Chennai. was admitted on August 5, after he tested positive for COVID-19.
The MGM Healthcare Hospital issued a statement, where the legendary Indian musician has remained hospitalized since August 5, said that SP Balasubrahmanyam remains on ECMO and other life support measures.
“His condition in the last 24 hours has deteriorated further warranting maximal life support and his condition is extremely critical. The team of experts at MGM Healthcare are closely monitoring his health condition,” the health bulletin issued by Dr Anuradha Baskaran, Assistant Director-Medical Services, MGM Healthcare hospital said.
The singer had been admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19, he was placed on a ventilator and ECMO after his condition deteriorated. Following his positive COVID-19 status he subsequently thereafter tested negative. It might be recalled that the singer was responding well to the treatment and was expected to get discharged. Venkat Prabhu, Tamil film director, was one of the first to share the news on social media.
