SP Balasubrahmanyam Funeral Emotions Run High

SP Balasubrahmanyam’s funeral was an emotional moment as he was laid to rest on Saturday at his farmhouse, attended by scores of fans and celebrities. His body was taken from his Nungambakkam residence in the city to his Thamaraipakkam farm residence in the Thiruvallur district on Friday evening.

Tamil Nadu police marched alongside the body, that was brought on a traditional hay-lined bier to the final resting place. S P Charan performed the funeral rites amid chants by priests, the mortal remains of SPB were smeared with ‘Thiruneeru’ (sacred ash) on his forehead was lowered into a deep pit and buried as chants of “SPB Pugazh Onguga” which translates to Long Live SPB were chanted by his fans. Flower petals were strewn across SPB with crystal salt inside his grave before its closure.

A 72-gun salute was fired off near the remains of legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam at his funeral.

The funeral was attended by scores of fans including celebrities who paid their last respects to the late SP Balasubrahmanyam.

India actor Vijay attended the funeral, paying his last respects to the late music icon at the Thamaraipakkam farmhouse. Both of them shared screen space in the Tamil movie Priyamanavale as well as SPB singing many songs for Thalapathy Vijay.

The singer, praised as “Padum Nila” (singing moon) and “Isai Megam” (music cloud) by his fans for his talented voice passed away on 25 September, read more here
