Chennai News 24 April

Someone asked me how come there is a new radio station that is going to launch soon in Chatsworth and yet no news about Southside. By some coincidence I got a call from one of the guys from Southside. Although he phoned me for a friendly chat I asked him about the radio station as soon as I discovered that he was part of the board. So he unofficially told me that they were going to start Southside FM in June or July. So here hoping for the best. My only fear is that I hope they have not left it till too late.

I have been waiting a long time to see this movie so was quite pleased when it was included in Amazon Prime. The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir is a 2018 English-language French adventure comedy film directed by Ken Scott and starring Dhanush. It is based on a novel by the same name by Romain Puertolas which was originally written in French. It is the story of Ajatashatru, a young fakir who swindles people for a living and manages to fly to Paris in search of his father. However, his life turns upside down when he falls in love with Marie. However, a mishap in Paris sees him taken to London where he is declared an illegal immigrant. The story also touches on the plight of refugees and takes us to many exotic locations. The movie can be seen in both English and Tamil.

I watched the movie Wild Dogs last night on Netflix. The movie can be watched in Telugu and Tamil. It stars Nagarjuna (the guy is not getting old) as Vijay Varma, a leader of a National Investigation Agency (NIA) task force that is set up to catch a bomb maker who was responsible for a number of bomb blasts. When he is tracked in Nepal the Indian government aborts the mission so not to cause a diplomatic crisis. Vijay and the team then engage in a clandestine mission to bring back the bomber. Although the actions sometimes go over the top, it is based on a true story

I am sure that it was a trying week for English football fans especially those of the big six. Just shows what an undivided fan base can achieve. Now can those greedy owners be made to leave. The bottom line is that fans want to see competition. They want the highs and lows of the game with chances of promotion and relegation. They want success but not granted on a plate. Hopefully all the other negative aspects of the game like racism can also be eradicated just as swiftly.

The second wave is well and truly on in India. The covid case in India has increased exponentially in the last few weeks. Not helping the situation was the many political rallies that took place and also the Khumb Mela in Haridwar. In both instances covid protocals went for a toss. So is votes more important than lives. Till midnight India saw 332,348 new cases and 2,247 deaths. India leads the world in new cases and accounts for about one third of the new cases. The country was doing so well so authorities must explain as to what went wrong. In Tamilnadu (pop. of about 80m) we had 12,652 new cases bringing the active cases to 89,428 (it was under 4,000 a month ago) and the total deaths of 13,317. So far just over 5 million have been vaccinated in TN. The government is extending vaccination to everyone over 18 from next week however there is a shortage of vaccines to do so.
