The Municipality is the oldest one in the commonwealth outside Britain. Normally we would have a number of events to celebrate this week but now due to restrictions it has toned down to a few online events.  Netrikann (third eye) is a Tamil movie on Disney Hotstar and stars Nayantara in the main role. Chennai News 6 August

Wishing all the ladies in SA for Women’s Day on 9th August. Normally there are many programs organised on this day however not sure if this is so during Level 4. However, I was told by Lexy Shunmoogam that the SA Musicians against Covid19 and the SA Tamil Federation have organised an exciting two-day festival to mark this day. See poster for more info.  All eyes were on Phoenix yesterday however luckily by all accounts the march by the EFF went off peacefully. Well done to those people who spoke to EFF and managed to change the theme to a Solidarity March from the original one which was racist in nature. Hopefully peace will prevail and those people trying to create racial divisions will fail.  Navarasa: I am really looking forward to the Tamil web-series Navarasa on the Netflix OTT …

Chennai News 17th April

Really sad to hear of the passing away of actor Vivek at the age of 59. He died due to a heart attack. Mandela Telugu Movie

We just completed our elections in Tamilnadu on Tuesday together with Kerala and Pondicherry. The elections was held over one day and was largely peaceful as can be expected in our state. However, results will only be out on May 5th as they do not want these results to affect the elections in the other states. So, we will get all kind of conspiracy theories till then. West Bengal for example has their elections spread over 8 phases and 8 different days and is still in the progress.  The Feral Nomad ‘If you are in doubt, just be still, and rest will be taken cared of’. WATCH: The Tamil protest song ‘Enjoy Enjaami’ that’s lighting the world up with 100m views

‘Enjoy Enjaami’ tells the story of exploited tea plantation labour and was an immediate hit, with cross-cultural appeal in India and the diaspora. The hit, written by Arivu with the stunning Tamil vocals of Dhee, is as much a serious protest piece as it is about killer dance beats. The video and music have their fair share of African influences, but the rap is not out of place. Rap was always the musical voice of the oppressed, poor and disenfranchised. “If rap is about story-telling, my grandmother is the world’s best story-teller,” says …
