Puthandu marks a new month and start of a year and it is celebrated with a lot of fervour among Tamils and the Thamizh diaspora. People spend time with their families after they clean up the house, take part in prayers and start the day by visiting temples. They eat a lavish spread of delicious preparations in their best traditional clothes. and decorate their homes with beautiful hand-drawn rangolis.
