EFF marching to Gandhi Park – Phoenix Highway closed – DA calls march “racial provocation”

Never one to let the opportunity to gain some publicity, the EFF has called for a march in Phoenix on 5th Augst that its posters and social media calls “against racist indians”. The move to free corrupt former president Jacob Zuma, which lead to the looting and unrest in July 2021, was originally attributed to those who benefited from corruption and Zulu Nationalists – also called The Black Right Wing. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has urged motorists to avoid the Phoenix Highway in Durban, amid a planned a march from Gandhi Square on Thursday. Breaking: State of Emergency in KZN declared 29 July, 2021 to deal with damage

The KwaZulu-Natal government has declared a provincial state of disaster due to the magnitude of the damage caused by the recent civil unrest. “The executive council which serves as the provincial cabinet engaged and took a decision to declare a provincial state of disaster, this is not just because of the private sector losses, but severe damage was also done to public infrastructure. The call comes following civil unrest that claimed over 300 lives and cost billions,” said Premier Sihle Zikalala. Statement by President Cyril Ramaphosa about KZN “Much of the narrative around the events in Phoenix has been dominated by attempts to turn one race against another. It has been stoked by anonymous people on social media and in messaging groups making outrageous claims and calling for revenge … They will not succeed. South Africa has a proud history of principled non-racialism and working-class solidarity. A number of death have.been attributed to the Phoenix area in the wake of the unrest and looting in KZN over the previous week. A group of Church leaders have demanded an investigation into the deaths and claim racism and “vigilante justice”. IOL reports – religious leaders in KwaZulu-Natal have expressed their condolences and offered prayers to the families who lost their loved ones in the recent violence in Phoenix, amid last week’s unrest. The leaders marched to the local police station yesterday, calling for peace and demanding justice. The march came as the Durban University of Technology Student Representatives Council (SRC) confirmed that two university students were killed in incidents allegedly linked to racial tension in Phoenix. The King of the Zulu nation, MisuZulu kaZwelithini, called for peace and an end to tension between Zulus and Indians today. The king weighed in on the mounting violent protests and unrest in KwaZulu-Natal that have caused damages estimated to be at around R1 billion.
