Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut on Saturday informed her fans via a social media post that she has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently under home quarantine. This a couple of days after Deepika Padukone and her family contracted the virus. COVID: IPL postponed, CSA scrambles to repatriate South African players asap 🏏

Hours after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 was postponed, Cricket South Africa (CSA) said it has held talks with all IPL franchises to ensure the safe return of Proteas players and support staff. CSA also informed that the Proteas contingent will have to undergo home quarantine in line with the current World Health Organization recommendations when they return to South Africa. “CSA supports the decision to put the health and safety interests of all involved in the tournament first and foremost and has made contact with all of the relevant franchises to ensure the expedited travel of all South African players and support staff back to our shores,” CSA said in an official statement. “Those travelling back to South Africa will undergo home quarantine in line with the current World Health Organization recommendations,” it added.The apex body of cricket …

‘I’ve lived my life’: 85-year-old with COVID gives up hospital bed for younger patient, dies at home

An 85-year-old COVID-19 patient, who voluntarily gave up his hospital bed in Nagpur to a younger patient on Saturday saying “I have lived my life”, died at his home on Tuesday. Narayan Dabhalkar was admitted to the Indira Gandhi government hospital in Nagpur after he tested positive a few days ago.  After much effort, he got a bed. It was then that he saw a woman looking for a bed to save her 40-year-old COVID-infected husband. The hospital authorities refused to admit him because there were no empty beds. India becomes the fastest nation to administer 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine

In a major milestone in the fight against COVID-19, India has administered over 100 million doses of coronavirus vaccines across the country, the Union Health Ministry informed on Saturday. With this, India has become the fastest in the world to administer that many vaccines in 85 days. As per the health ministry, it took the United States 85 days to administer 92.09 million doses, while China’s vaccination coverage was 61.42 million.As of 7:30 pm on Saturday, the 85th day of the nationwide COVID19 vaccination, the cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 10,12,84,282. “A series of pro-active, collaborative and coordinated steps taken by the Centre and the State governments along with the efficient clinical management has ensured that India has the lowest fatality rate in the world (1.28 per cent),” a statement said.The 10.12 crore …

Professor Karim steps down as the General in the fight against coronavirus

South Africa’s top adviser to the government on covid-19, Professor Salim Abdool Karim, announced Thursday that he has resigned as chairperson of the Ministerial Advisory Committee (MAC) on the coronavirus pandemic. Karim is an epidemiologist, internationally recognised for his research contributions to HIV prevention and treatment. He heads the Centre for the Aids Programme of Research in SA at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. His area of speciality is clinical infectious diseases. In a statement available on Twitter (below), he said it had been his singular honour and privilege to have served as the chairperson of the MAC on Covid-19 since March last year and subsequently as co-chair of a revised MAC, established in September.
