Thaipusam in Queensburgh

ShareThis is a festival dedicated to the most popular south indian deity Lord Muruga, who was given a lance(Vel) by Goddess Parvathi to vanquish the demon army Tarakasura. Thai Poosam is therefore a celebration of good over evil.  On this day Lord Muruga is offered milk carried in the Kavady for abishegam (holy bath), fruit, etc. For the first time in Queensburgh, Malvern, Sri Ayyappa Seva Sungam held this celebration and was attended by hundreds of residents in the area.

Sri Ayyapa Seva Sungam Official Opening

The Sri Ayyappa Seva Sungam will be officially installing their murthi (deity statue) and conducting the Abhishegam (ritual bathing ceremony) and the 108 Kalasam Pooja. The temple site will also be a cultural centre hub as described by the officials of the venue. Patrons of the Ayappa and members of the public are welcome to the opening of this very special temple at 26 Park Road, Malvern, Durban.
